Great for potlucks!

The recipe I used is adapted from NYT Cooking.

Per 6-8 servings:

  • 1 lb ziti (or other pasta of choice)
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 28-ounce can marinara sauce
  • 1 28-ounce can tomato sauce
  • 16 oz ricotta
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 lb fresh mozzarella, cut into ½-inch pieces
  • salt, to taste
  • pepper, to taste
  • handful of basil leaves, chopped, as garnish

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

  • Cook pasta ~2 minutes less than directions on package. Drain and set aside.

  • In a large bowl, combine tomato paste, marinara, and tomato sauce.

  • In another bowl, combine ricotta and heavy cream. Season with salt and pepper.

  • Add 2 cups of tomato sauce blend to pasta and mix to incorporate.

  • Grease a 9x13 baking dish with oil.

  • Spoon some tomato sauce blend to the base of the baking dish. Add 1/3 of the pasta on top.

  • Add 1/3 of the remaining tomato sauce blend on top, followed by 1/2 of the ricotta/cream blend.

  • Add 1/3 of the mozzarella on top.

  • Repeat the layering process with the pasta, tomato sauce blend, ricotta/cream blend, and mozzarella.

  • For the last layer, add the rest of the pasta, tomato sauce blend, and mozzarella.

  • Bake in the oven for 30-40 minutes.

  • Garnish with basil, let it cool slightly, and enjoy!
